Mont Saint-Michel
Today was our day trip to Mont Saint-Michel, about an hour and a half south west of Bayeux on the coast near Avranches. Beautiful sunny, 30C temperatures made it feel just like home. The Abbey was built on the island in 708 and since then has gathered over a thousand years of history. There are many steps up to the Abbey, and many more inside, but it is well worth the trip. The original Abbey was fortified during the Hundred Years War, so the feel of the island is part church, part castle. The Abbey itself expanded over it's lifetime, so there are 'new' and old sections.
